Fernando Riscado Cordas (The Hague, 1975) is one of today's most impressive guitarists. He receives much praise for his playing, in particular for his astonishing sound and captivating interpretations. Fernando has concertised both in ensemble and as soloist in several European countries, including The Netherlands, Italy , France , England and Spain , and was a member of the world-renowned 'Trio de Cologne' with Zoran Dukic and Laura Young. He has had the privilege of working with a number of leading figures in the international music scene, such as composers Luciano Berio and György Kurtág and conductors Lawrence Renes, Marcello Bufalini and Reinbert de Leeuw.

Cordas studied guitar with Robby Faverey, Raphaëlla Smits and Zoran Dukic at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where he was one of very few to be admitted to the specialised 'Master of Music' programme, which he completed in 2003. He received his master's degree with two prestigious distinctions: for professionalism and interpretation. He played at a variety of international music festivals and took masterclasses with, among others, David Russel (GB), Hubert Käppel (D), Carlo Marchione (I), Sergio Assad (Br), Roland Dyens (F) and David Starobin (US). In addition to being an active concert artist, Fernando Cordas is a respected guitar pedagogue, specialising in the development of young talent and the training of youths for careers in music. As a reward for his accomplishments as a guitarist, Fernando Cordas was granted a special scholarship by the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds to have a personal concert guitar built by a renowned luthier. This instrument, built by Nicolaas van der Waals, was constructed using the finest and rarest woods available, and is based on instruments by Herman Hauser I, Andres Segovia's luthier of choice.

Since 2001 Fernando has been exploring the world of the 19th century guitar. Both as a soloist and with guitar duo Elias/Cordas Fernando has re-vitalized the romantic repertoire. In part thanks to the kind collaboration of the Haags Gemeentemuseum Fernando has been able to do an indepth research on the music of Franz Schubert and specifically on Schubert's connection to the guitar. The result is a most thourough and well balanced CD project, for the greater part played on an original Viennese guitar by Johann Georg Stauffer (1824). This CD was released in March 2014.

Fernando Riscado Cordas is specialized in performing the worlds most famous guitar concerto, Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez. In 2010 Fernando was substituting for world renowned guitarist Pepe Romero and gave several concerts with the Noord Nederlands Orkest. On the 5th of May Fernando played a segment from Concierto de Aranjuez live on television for Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, German president Joachim Gauck and 1.5 million televisionviewers. The concert concluded the annual celebrations surrounding the countries liberation at the end of the 2nd world war. In the fall of 2012 Fernando performed Concierto de Aranjuez three times with the Straßbourg Symphony Orchestra. Since September 2014 Cordas is teaching at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague.
